Study on traumatic rupture of tympanic membrane

Objective: To find out the causes and pattern of traumatic rupture of tympanic membrane (TM) and their prognosis. Methods: This was a cross sectional study and carried out in the otorhi-nolaryngology outpatient clinic of teaching hospital of Fathima Institute of Medical Sciences, Kadapa, AP, in a period of 12 months from 1st June 2014 to 31st May 2015 among those had traumatic ruptured tympanic membrane attending in our hospital. 50 cases were taken and the data were collected by interviewing the cases as per questionnaire from history, examinations & investigation reports. Results: Out of total of 50 cases, Age range from 6 months to 60 yrs with a mean age of 30.6 yrs and modal age of 33 years. About 3 (6%) of them were <5 years and majority of the patients (70%) were between 15 and 45 years of age Table 1. Of them, 23 (46%) were males and 27(54%) were females.
